Connect Instagram

Instagram DMs land in the same inbox as every other channel, answered by the same agent with the same knowledge and the same handoff rules.

Before you start

You need:

  • An Instagram professional account — Business or Creator. A personal account cannot receive messages through the API. Switching is free, in the Instagram app under Settings → Account type.
  • Admin access to that account.
  • Messaging access allowed in the Instagram app, under Settings → Privacy → Messages.

1 · Open the connect flow

In Braid, go to Channels and press Set up Instagram. Only admins can connect a channel.

2 · Authorise with Business Login

Instagram's login window opens. Sign in with the account you want to connect and review the permissions Braid asks for — reading the DMs sent to you, and replying to them.

Braid never sees your Instagram password. As with WhatsApp, the exchange happens inside Meta's own window.

3 · Confirm

The popup closes and Braid shows the connected handle. The card also shows when the access token renews — Braid refreshes it before it expires, so a working connection stays working without anyone remembering to reconnect.

Send yourself a test DM

Message the account from a different Instagram account — you cannot DM yourself. The conversation appears in Inbox within a few seconds, marked as Instagram.

Note that Instagram does not deliver messages from accounts you have blocked, or message requests you have not accepted.

Turning it off

Channels → Manage → Turn off Instagram. Delivery stops immediately and the authorisation can also be revoked from Instagram's own settings at any time.
