Braid

Connect WhatsApp

Braid connects to the WhatsApp Business Platform through Meta's Embedded Signup. The number that answers is yours, the WhatsApp Business Account stays under your control, and the whole authorisation happens inside Meta's own popup.

Before you start

You need:

  • A Facebook account with admin access to your business.
  • A phone number that is not currently registered to the WhatsApp app or WhatsApp Business app. If it is, delete that account first — a number can only live in one place.
  • Access to that number by SMS or voice call, for Meta's verification.

You do not need a Meta Developer account, a WhatsApp Business Account created in advance, or anything installed. Embedded Signup creates what is missing.

1 · Open the connect flow

In Braid, go to Channels and press Set up WhatsApp. During first-time setup this is step 2 of the wizard.

Only admins can connect a channel. If the button is disabled, ask an admin on your workspace.

2 · Sign in with Facebook

Meta's popup opens. Sign in with the Facebook account that has admin access to your business.

Braid never sees your Facebook password — the whole exchange happens inside Meta's window, and Braid receives only the authorisation at the end of it.

3 · Choose your business portfolio

Pick the business portfolio this number belongs to, or create one. If your business is already verified with Meta, choose the existing portfolio rather than making a new one.

4 · Create or select the WhatsApp Business Account

Select an existing WhatsApp Business Account, or let Meta create one. You will be asked for a display name — this is what customers see at the top of the chat, so use your business name as customers know it.

5 · Add and verify the number

Enter the phone number that will answer, choose SMS or voice, and enter the code Meta sends.

If Meta says the number is already registered, it is still attached to a WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app account. Delete that account from the phone first, then retry.

6 · Finish

The popup closes and Braid shows the number as connected, with the business name beside it.

Your agent is now receiving on that number — but it only answers once the agent is live. If you have not published yet, go to Agent and press Go live.

Send yourself a test message

Message the connected number from your own phone. Within a few seconds the conversation appears in Inbox, and the agent answers from whatever knowledge you have added.

If nothing arrives, check that the agent is live rather than paused, and that you messaged the number Braid shows as connected.

Turning it off

Channels → Manage → Turn off WhatsApp stops delivery immediately. Your WhatsApp Business Account and number are unaffected and stay yours — the connection is removed on Braid's side only.
